Posing: Isometric Muscle Contractions

Who thinks isotonic exercises are tough?! Well have you ever tried holding isometric contractions for 90secs at a time?! Hellooo!!! #CollapseOverAChairStatus! πŸ˜ͺ

An #Isometric contraction is a specific type of muscle contraction used in some forms of training and in #Posing. Neither the joint angle or the length of the muscle changes during this type of muscle contraction. It takes place while the body is in a static pose, without any range of motion. πŸ’

An #Isotonic exercise is just the opposite; a form of muscular exertion principally characterized by a change in both muscle length and joint angle. Also known as dynamic contraction, isotonic exercises typically involve the rhythmic, repetitive motion of large muscle groups. This is the type of muscular exertion that is most often used during strength training and cardiovascular exercise, resulting in net gains in muscular size, strength, and endurance. πŸ’ͺ

Isometric contractions of muscle can be really important for building muscle ‘strength’. Although those in my yoga class aren’t necessarily brawny they display impressive muscular strength, and are able to hold poses with ease & grace then anyone I know back in the weight room. Bingggg πŸ’‘ > I’m trying to develop muscular strength with posing! 😎

This will serve two essential purposes; 1. It works well for stretching your limbs, which many experts agree is just as important as strengthening them when trying to avoid injury AND 2. A vanity fix …holla 😌

Yoga Inspired Stretch, Part I

#GetStretched! — Stretching is essential both pre & post workout. It allows the muscles to warm up, fending off unnecessary strain, cramping, and other dangers that can occur when cold muscles are worked too quickly. Stretching your muscles helps you maximize the range of motion of your joints. This allows you to fully contract your muscles. Stretching can also prevent little tears in a muscle or tendon that occur when you force a joint to go through its full range of motion when the tissues are too tight. I try to dedicate at least 8-10mins of stretching both before & after a lift session. πŸ’ͺ

This was a wall-sit turned selfie …typical 😌

Later I’ll share some of my favorite Plyometric exercises that I’ll no doubt be attacking to tame these thunder thighs in the next coming weeks. I’ve noticed a lot of women want to know more about Plyometric Training so I will deliver soon! To my male followers, slimming your legs down is not what you’re commonly requesting (and certainly not what us women are asking of you, ha (I am a #BigFanOfMenWithBigLegs lol) but I’ll be taping a good heavy squat session for my up-coming YouTube videos so perhaps that’ll satisfy for some decent inspiration πŸ˜‰

…Ok, back to my current workout; I’m on the track and this little chubby kid is trying to race me each time I pass him, too cute!!!! …but I ain’t about to let him beat me 😀 lol #Need2ChillWithMyCompetitiveAss πŸ˜‚

My Motivation; Mama

#TBT: 1982 – I credit this woman for everything good & decent about who I am today. My never ending source of motivation, toughest critic, loving supporter, biggest fan and she just so happens to be my mother … ❀

Yo, Samoan mothers are tough, believe that, but her sense of wit, work ethic and love towards her family provides me with a near perfect example of what it takes to be successful in life, and more importantly a giving & compassionate person! #Love!!! …..Ou te alofa i lo’u tina! xox ❀

CLEAN EATING: Asparagus

Asparagus! Asparagus! We all scream for Asparagus!!! ……not πŸ˜‘ Who here enjoys eating asparagus?!!! In other words who here has broken taste buds???

…ok, ok so it’s not the worse edible green known to man well not any more! I finally found a way of preparing it that I’m actually enjoying and by enjoying I mean liking-a-little-bit …ok it’s kinda good in a gooey way. 🍴

For those willing to try —
πŸ‘‰ dice stalks into bite size pieces

πŸ‘‰ add a teaspoon of coconut oil to a non stick fry pan

πŸ‘‰ throw those chopped stalks in once the oil melts, toss for a few minutes

πŸ‘‰ then sprinkle whole flax seeds in the mix, 3-4 teaspoons

πŸ‘‰ I then grind a whole lot of black pepper on top (I ❀ black pepper)

πŸ‘‰ dash of turmeric, paprika and cayenne pepper to taste

πŸ‘‰ seal the deal with a good squeeze of half a lemon. #Doneeee ✊

πŸ”—Note: I avoid over cooking my asparagus, total time in the pan shouldn’t exceed 10-12minutes (variable depending on the quantity & your hardware). Keep a nice crunch, a soggy bite is never fun.

ALSO, I should mention that cooked flax seeds leave a gooey consistency, it doesn’t bother me but if you’re funny about those things kill the flax from the checklist & perhaps use flaxseed oil instead of coconut… πŸ˜‰

#HurtsSoGood …Snippets from last nights Back & Shoulders workout, featuring another pair of these super comfortable #UA trainers πŸ‘

…so something dawned on my last night during my workout, it seems strange that the back & shoulders muscles are my favorite muscles to train and yet I found myself complaining & grunting over having to do > 1. Standing Upright Rows with Barbell πŸ˜’ > 2. T-Bar 😣 and > 3. Standing Lateral Raises using a Cable πŸ˜– – MY LEAST FAVORITE EXERCISES …aaarrghhhhh, me no likey 😩😫😩

… Ok so the dawning was; ah, maybe I hate em’ because I need to do them more often πŸ’‘πŸ˜³πŸ’‘ …πŸ˜‘

Conclusion; there’s a reason behind your disgust for specific exercises, perhaps they are more challenging and your body is saying …ohhhmann, this one stings!… I’ve diagnosed my own solution πŸ‘‰ Do them ’till you LOVE ‘EM!!!
